“Watching how our older family members made decisions about aging was a huge lesson for us. We knew it was up to us to foresee our future as best we could and intentionally plan our next chapter before it descended upon us.
With that in mind, we began having discussions and doing research to determine what would be best for us. It was a daunting task filled with anxiety as we were confronting decisions that most people don’t want to anticipate, especially when they are still relatively healthy and younger than 80.
Exploring all the options for senior living is rather overwhelming. The questions are endless.
Any decision came with a certain amount of risk. Whatever choice we made required signing a legal agreement and possibly investing a large amount of our lifetime savings, without a crystal ball foretelling our future.
Beyond the facts about each community, we wondered how we could assess their quality and stability? And most importantly for us: What is the feel of the community? Will we feel supported, and connected to the other people there?
For us this decision was a monumental and legacy-defining choice that would determine how we would live out our last chapter.
